Do you think the Edmonton Oilers can make some noise this year?
For those of you who don't know, they have Pat Quinn behind the bench, a really good assistant coach (I forget his name), Nicholai Khabulin, and Jordan Eberle, plus all the other talent. Do you think they can make some noise in the NHL this year?
I think they will be a tougher and more well balanced team, but they are still going to have to work very hard for a playoff spot.
They are a young, developing team that has an excellent amount of talent. With that being said, their youngsters are going to need to step it up this year and fight for a playoff spot. I predict they will be battling for one along with several other teams (the Western Conference is really tight, and virtually any team can make the playoffs).
Goaltending wise they look good, with Khabulin in net, he gives them a reliable veteran presence.
Their defense can use some work to keep up with the rest of the league, but they are average.
Offensively they are strong, and with all that young talent still blossoming look for them to become an offensive powerhouse.
I think the Edmonton Oilers are not contenders yet, but within the next 2-3 years (when many of their prospects mature and add some more size on the defense), they will be contenders. I predict an exciting NHL season though, especially since many teams will be fighting for playoff spots.
I look forward to watching young teams like the St. Louis Blues, Chicago Blackhawks, LA Kings, Phoenix Coyotes and the Oilers in the upcoming season.
