Training
Dan Haseltine, Steve Mason, Charlie Lowell and Justin Gabriel Jars of Clay formed in Greenville College in Greenville, Illinois in early 1990. Charlie Lowell, Dan Haseltine met after realizing he was dressed a shirt with Toad The Wet Sprocket. In 1994, the group sent a demo for a contest talents of the Gospel Music Association and were selected as finalists. They traveled to Nashville to perform and won the contest. Jars of Clay signed with Essential Records and began recording their first album review length, entitled Jars of Clay. Prog-rock band King Crimson Adrian Belew heard of the group and offered to produce, he produced two songs - "Liquid" and "flood". The band released their eponymous debut in 1995. When the single "Flood" began to climb lists conventional radio stations, silver record (essential for the parent company) began heavily promoting the song, making it one of the most successful incorporate ever by a band on the label of Christian. The album reached multi-platinum certification by the RIAA. "Flood" reached # 37 on the Billboard Hot 100 and # 12 on Billboard's Modern Rock chart, and was the only secular radio band struck.
The group was to tour in support of other Christian acts, as PFR, and indeed the principal acts as Matchbox Twenty, Duncan Sheik, and Sting. This led to a slight decrease of fundamentalist Christian groups. The band released an EP entitled Christmas Drummer Boy at the end of 1995. The EP was reissued in 1997 with a slightly different list in the way money.
Very afraid
The year 1997 also saw the release of the band's second album, a lot of fear, which was produced by Stephen Lipson. The album sold very well and is entered to win a Grammy for Best Pop / Contemporary Gospel Album. "The album was certified platinum by the RIAA. They have released two music videos in this album, and Crazy Times Five candles (you were there.)
If I left the zoo
In 1999, Jars of Clay released their third album, so I left the zoo, which was produced by Dennis Herring. The album earned the band their second Grammy Award. It was around this time that drummer Scott Savage left the group tour the band to play for Jaci Velasquez and was replaced by Joe Porter. Lead radio single, "Unforgetful You" was also featured on the soundtrack of the film Drive Me Crazy. "Collide" was presented in the movie "Hometown Legend." After the release of If I left the zoo also released Luge Front Garden and one year after The White Elephant Sessions. If I left the zoo has far more single of Jars of Clay.
In 2001, the four band members received honorary degrees at Greenville College. However, only three of them, Haseltine, Lowell, Mason and had studied at university before leaving in 1994 to move to Nashville, while Odmark yet received an honorary doctorate, despite having attended college in New York.
The Eleventh Hour
In 2002, the band self-produced and released her fourth album entitled The Eleventh Hour, which earned the band a Grammy for the album third consecutive time. The album relied on studio musicians and touring musicians in the band to replace the absence of a drummer and bassist.

The year 2003 saw the band takes a retrospective look at his career. The double-disc more: From the study, the stadium features an acoustic album and a live album. The acoustic album was to favorite fan reworked and rearranged, Eleventh Hour two of the b-sides, and cover more of Adam "Dig." Redemption Songs
In early 2005 the band released Redemption Songs, a collection of hymns and traditional songs. The band wrote new songs to old hymns and rearrange music for others. "God will raise up your head," adapted to an acoustic rocker, was a success for the band to Christian radio. He also covered five indelible anthems of the Grace CD series (a series which originated from the work of reform University Fellowship).
Good Monsters
In late 2005, the group announced that the process of writing a new studio album was nearing completion and will be back in the studio to record the album in the spring. On September 4, 2007, the group released two albums were released simultaneously. The first is a statement incorporating living monsters, an EP of live concert recordings of songs originally recorded for Good Monsters. The EP was released by through the iTunes Store, by Jars of Clay official online store. The second album released to this date has been the greatest hits album, entitled The Jars Essential of Clay, which was published by Essential / Legacy.
On April 1, 2008, Essential Records released the album Greatest Hits of the third group (second last year), entitled Greatest Hits. It included the new song "Love is the protest."
In summer 2007, "Buenos monsters of the song appeared in the pilot of the television series" Eli Stone "Furthermore," work "of the song was used in promotional material for TV Fox 'Bones' shows the network and "House."
Gray Matters
In March 2007, the group announced during a concert in Des Moines, Iowa, who were no longer in critical documents and is now releasing music independent. Back on Earth
Tenth studio album Jars of Clay was released April 21, 2009. The new disc contains 14 songs, among them more closely and PE Closer to earth, and is influenced by music from the 80, specially Tears For Fears and The Cure. This is called falling back to earth.
The song "Hero" was presented in a trailer for Reyes NBC.
Back on Earth began at # 29 on the Billboard Top 200 list, which was more Jars of Clay debut since The Eleventh Hour, which began at No. 28 in 2002.
First radio single from the album "Two Hands" which reached # 6 on the Hot Christian Songs.
The second single from the album is "Heaven."
The fall to Earth was nominated for a Grammy for "Best Pop / Contemporary Gospel Album "but not won in the category.
Jars of Clay has released the first EP "I live in Gray Matters" series February 5.

Jars of Clay has managed to be nominated and won several awards including the prestigious Grammy wins and several of Christian music, known as the GMA Dove Awards. Some of these successes have been in collaborative efforts, including two albums with the city in a Hill and with the collaboration of inspiration for the 2005 film The World Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The group has won five of music distribution Incorporated (BMI) price.
In June 2009, Jars of Clay has been named one of PeaceByPeace.com 's first heroes of peace.
Blood Water Mission

Singer Dan Haseltine visited Africa in 2002, which in turn inspired the creation of Blood: Water Mission, a charitable organization established to raise funds for poverty and AIDS-affected regions of the continent. The name is derived as Haseltine said that: "The two things that Africa needs most" - the blood pure and clean water. The mission began on Wells 1000s, an effort to have a thousand new wells built in Africa.

In a 2002 interview with NPR's Scott Simon on Weekend Edition Saturday, in response to a question about the religious content of his music relatively subtle, Haseltine says, "our songs ...
