The Islanders earned 118 points that season. They defeated the Vancouver Canucke in a four game series to lift the Stanley Cup once again. Bossy made the Cup winning goal and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy.

The 1982-83 season saw competition between the Edmonton Oilers and the Islanders as the best team of NHL. The Islanders defeated the Oilers to win their fourth cup.
